Not everybody needs a special cloth diaper to cloth diaper overnight. Some families get by with their every day set up because their child's night time output is not drastically different.
Some families will need a special night time diaper. This blog post gives you a few ideas to get started with night time cloth diapering. Remember, you are still a cloth diaper parent if you use disposables part time or just for nights.
You might have a general idea of how much your child wets already. You don't have to go through this list from first to last. Start where you think you need to start based off your daytime or nap time experiences. To make this experience less painful try these tips:
- Use a mattress protector.
- Continue to change your baby in the night as needed, as they wake, poop, or fuss during the night.
- Use fleece pj's for bedtime. Fleece is a little water resistant and can act as a buffer reducing how wet things get.
Night time diapering can fluctuate from day-to-day and stage of life to stage of life. Toddlers can be one of the most difficult to night diaper if they are holding their pee and flooding it early in the morning.
1. Try Adding a Booster
Take your current daytime or nap cloth diaper and add an additional booster or insert to the set up.
This will add up to 8 ounces of additional absorbency depending on the product you try. This might be the difference you need. Adding a booster to your current set up is a low cost option for lighter wetters.
You can use the Signature Stay-dry bamboo booster, or a Simplee Bamboo Insert, or any other product you currently use in your stash.
2. Try a 3-ply Prefold
The Nuggles BambooLUXE Terry prefold is available in two weights and sizes. The 3-ply prefold offers enough absorbency for the average overnight wetter.
The size 1 3-ply prefold offers about 10 oz of absorbency, whereas the size 2 3-ply offers upwards of 15 oz of absorbency. These products nearly double most standard insert set ups offering long-lasting absorbency through the night.
A BambooLUXE prefold can be added to the Nuggles Simplee or the Tuck-Wrap-Go Cover. The Tuck-Wrap-Go Cover is the best choice for night because the two-ply PUL adds the additional water resistant many baby's need for a dry morning.
3. Try a Fitted Diaper
If prefold diapers and adding additional boosters doesn't work, a fitted diaper can be a night time solution.
The Nuggles BambooLUXE Fittted is a great choice for many heavy wetters overnight.
Fitted diapers offer additional absorbency protection because of their unique design and fit. Unlike a prefold diaper that lays in the centre of a diaper, a fitted diaper wraps around baby offering 360 absorbency coverage.
Fitted diapers are a great choice for heavy wetters, baby's who sleep in funny positions, and baby's who struggle with leaks.
If you need more absorbency, add additional inserts such as the night time insert for super soaker overnight protection.
